Nail Systems:
Acrylic:
Acrylic (Methacrylate) nail enhancements are created by combining monomer liquid and polymer powder. This can be applied in three basic ways:
1. Applied to the natural nail as a protective overlay
2. Over a nail tip
3. Sculpted to extend the natural nail using a form.
Acrylic is thought to be the most durable choice and creates a more matte finish which can be polished or french manicured to create natural looking nails. They can be soaked off in 50 mins and if applied correctly will not damage the natural nail.
UV Gel:
Gels can be easy to apply, file and maintain. They also have the advantage of having very little odor. Although they are not as strong and flexible as acrylic, gels can create beautiful, long- lasting nail enhancements. The application process differs alot from other types of overlay. After the nail plate is prepared, each layer of product applied requires exposure to UV light to cure or harden. They produce a shinier finish than other systems. The hardest system to remove.
Fiberglass/silk wrap:
Nail wraps are types of nail enhancements made by using a nail-size piece of silk or fiberglass bonded to the top of the nail plate with wrap resin. These systems can be used to lengthen the natural nail, but are most often used as coatings or 'overlays' on the natural nail and nail tips. They can also be used to repair or strengthen natural nails. This system is not as durable as the other systems and is more suited to clients who only wish to wear them for a short time. ie for a wedding or holiday. They are easiest to remove, only needing a 15 minute soak. They are also the kindest for the natural nail.
